Dead space 2 extinct animals9/18/2023 ![]() And beyond that, some say that the resources and funds necessary for de-extinction would compete with current and vital conservation efforts. But others aren’t so sure de-extinction is ethical, or even feasible, since each creature poses its own unique challenge: Recreating a bird is a very different process from recreating a mammal. They remind us that all scientific breakthroughs are initially met with skepticism and concern, most of which we now take for granted. De-extinction’s proponents argue that the benefits are many, including correcting mistakes of the past by bringing back extinct ecosystems and organisms and helping to curb climate change. While this process was once a sci-fi fantasy explored in films like “Jurassic Park,” recent biological and technological breakthroughs indicate that reviving extinct creatures, like the passenger pigeon and the woolly mammoth, could become a reality. Against this backdrop, we debate: Does America Need A Third Party?ĭe-extinction describes the process of creating an organism which is a member of, or closely resembles, an extinct species. Those in opposition say adding a third party encourages vote-splitting, lowering the threshold of votes necessary for unpopular candidates to win, and that the current system fosters stability, simplifies voting decisions, and encourages broad-based, moderate policies. Those who support third parties say that the two-party system breeds polarized partisanship and hinders governance, while a third party would create non-partisan solutions and be more representative of a wider range of ideologies. Now, groups like No Labels call for third-party “unity tickets” to be added to 2024 presidential election ballots. While a two-party system has been the standard, third parties have occasionally challenged this status quo but have often failed to gain significant traction. At the United States’ founding, the Federalists and Democratic-Republicans were the first political parties, eventually evolving into the Democratic and Republican parties we know today. ![]()
